What is Dawah?

Conveying the message of “LA ILAHA ILLA ALLAH, MUHAMMADAN RASULU ALLAH”. Calling people to worship God alone, and submit to the creator, reminding them of their purpose in life and guiding them to the truth. It should be done with sincerity and only for the sake of Allah without expecting worldly rewards.

Ways of Doing Dawah:

Direct Dawah: Is the act of starting a conversation with someone to invite them to Islam.

  • Start Conversations
  • Ask if they have considered Islam
  • Discuss the benefits of Islam
  • Answering Questions
  • Clearing up misconceptions

Indirect Dawah: Is a way of spreading Islam by being a good role model and showing compassion.

  • Actions speak louder than words
  • Be a role model
  • Show mercy & compassion
  • Mirror the Prophet (Character)
  • Conduct & Manners

Who is Dawah for?

Everyone; Non-Muslims and Muslims, Adults and Children.
In a world filled with secularism, the increase of adultery and sexual misconduct, and the new generation of worldly problems and desires. We need to invite people to the belief in the oneness of God and the Islamic values and way of life.

Obstacles of Doing Dawah?

  • I don’t have enough time.
  • What if I don’t get results?
  • It’s taboo to talk about religion.
  • I don’t have enough knowledge.
  • I don’t qualify.
  • I, myself, need Dawah.
  • I’m too shy.

What you need to know to Do Dawah?

  1. The Basics of Islam
  2. Monotheism vs Associate Partners with God
  3. Five Pillars of Islam
  4. Six Articles of Faith

Why Dawah?

  • To seek the pleasure of Allah.
  • Many children are leaving Islam. We need to teach families and children how to strengthen their faith. Doing Dawah will help them remove doubts. It will be a reminder.
  • Misinformation about Islam is spread all over the world and one of our goals is to change the stereotypes.

Continue to Achieve Good Deeds After You Have Passed Away
As the Prophet (PBUH) said: “When a man dies, his good deeds come to an end except three: on going charity, beneficial knowledge and righteous offspring who will pray for him.” [Muslim]

Importance of Dawah

  • It’s a Direct order from Allah and his Messenger.
  • It’s one of the best deeds that brings immense rewards.
  • It was the mission of the Prophets.

From the Quran

Allah says in Quran:

  • And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allah and does righteousness and says, ‘Indeed, I am of the Muslims’ — [Quran 41:33]
  • Let there arise from among you a group inviting to all that is good (Islam), enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong. And it is they who will be successful. — [Quran 3:104]
  • Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best. — [Quran 16:125]

From the Sunnah

The Prophet (PBUH) said:

  • “By Allah! If a single person embraces Islam at your hands, that will be better for you than the red camels.” [Tirmidhi]
  • “Convey from me, even if it is one verse.” [Bukhari]
  • “Whoever guides someone to goodness will have a reward like the one who does it.” [Muslim]
  • “None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.” [Nawawi]

What is our Purpose in this Country

  • Living in this country is a blessing, yet also a test.
  • We are not here by coincidence. We live in a society surrounded by non-Muslims many of them are lost in their faith, searching for God and life’s purpose.

It is our job to consider this:
What will we do with the opportunity we have been given?

Caller’s (Dai’i) Responsibility

Do’s

  • So by mercy from Allah, [O Muhammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you [Quran 3:159]
  • Say, “O People of the Scripture, come to a word that is equitable between us and you – that we will not worship except Allah and not associate anything with Him and not take one another as lords instead of Allah.” But if they turn away, then say, “Bear witness that we are Muslims” [submitting to Him].” [Quran 3:64]
  • “Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction. Advice should be done on the basis of knowledge and clear proof, with kindness and clarity, privately not publicly (as a default), and sometimes indirectly and other times directly [Quran 16:125]

Dont’s

  • No arguments, no debating
  • Don’t try to win the conversation or to prove them wrong, instead try to find similarities.
  • No Ego.
  • No fights.
  • Do not pressure, our job is to convey the message, and the result is in Allah’s hand.
  • No Aggression.
  • No judgment.

Dawah in Our Daily Lives

Create daily Intentions

  • Convey the message of Islam wherever you go, through your actions or words.

Be Confident in Your Faith

  • Pray in public spaces
  • Wear your hijab proudly.
  • Recite or play the Quran audibly in the background.
  • Talk openly about fasting or attending Jummah prayer.

Engage in Conversations

  • Ask others about their beliefs.
  • Use that as an opening to share your own beliefs.

Be Prepared

  • Keep extra copies of the Quran
  • Share Islamic videos or Quranic miracles on social media to raise awareness.
  • Tie Action to Religion
  • Be the best Muslim you can be
  • Intentionally explain that your practices are because of your religious beliefs, prompting curiosity.

GORAP: God’s Existence, Oneness, Revelation, And Prophethood

It Explains the foundational concepts of Islam in a reasoned and logical way.
It avoids difficult issues and reduces the potential for arguments.
It calls to Tawheed first, so there is a firm foundation to build upon.

The Dawah Script

Why Dawah Script?

Over the years, we have observed a common challenge in introducing Islam to non-Muslims:
Where do we start? What do we say?
How do we summarize such a vast and profound message? We often felt lost, and overwhelmed

  • The script acts as a map, that provides a systematic approach to introduce the core foundation of Islam effectively
  • To ensure our message is concise, yet comprehensive, and easy to understand
  • Even for those who are uninterested or short on time, the script aims to spark curiosity and leave a lasting impression

Steps of Dawah Script

Introducing:

  1. Islam Definition
  2. Existence of God
  3. Purpose & Prophets
  4. The Miracle of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
  5. Other Scriptures
  6. Worshiping God alone

What Does Islam Mean?

Islam means acquiring peace by submitting your will to God, the Creator of the universe and everything in it.

Existence of God

Do you believe in God? If the answer is “No” or “Maybe”: Ask rhetorical questions to Plant a Seed & Make them think!

In Islam we believe in one God, the creator of the universe and everything in it

  • If I said I was walking in the desert one day and I threw some dust in the air, and it randomly formed into an iPhone, what would you think of me?
  • If I told you that this building just appeared out of nowhere, with no one to build it, would you believe me?
  • If the sun came too close to us or if it went too far from us what will happen? So who do you think placed the sun in the right spot?

Purpose & Prophets

Do you think God created us just to eat, drink, and go to work? Or is there a deeper purpose?

God Created All of Us For a Purpose

  • To communicate this purpose, He has sent prophets like Adam, Moses, Jesus, and finally, the last prophet, Muhammed (PBUHl). [Quran 2:137]
  • Every nation received a prophet to teach people about God and the purpose of life.
Their message was always the same to worship God alone. These prophets were given miracles to prove that their message was from God.

Every nation received a prophet to teach people about God and the purpose of life.
Their message was always the same to worship God alone
These prophets were given miracles to prove that their message was from God.
For example:

  • Moses parted the Red Sea [Quran 2:50]
  • Jesus was born miraculously without a father, healed the blind, and raised the dead. However, that does not make him God: If that was the case,
  • Adam and Eve would be more worthy of being God since they were born without a mother or a father

These miracles were given to the Prophets by God. [Quran 3:45-49-59]

What is The Miracle of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)?

The Quran

  • We didn’t see the miracle of Jesus or Moses but the miracle of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that is tangible to us in the Quran.
  • Preservation of the Quran (historical fact).
  • The Quran has been preserved for 1400 years in its original language (Arabic) nothing has been added or removed.
  • We have the original manuscript in its complete form.

There is a scientific miracle in the Quran Describes:

  • Embryology stages in details… [Quran 23:13-14]
  • The Start of the Universe (Big Bang Theory) [Quran 21:30] Describes
  • The Expansion Universe… [Quran 51:47]
  • Mountains on has pegs underneath Earth. [Quran 78:6-7,16-15]
  • Explains The Water Cycle… [Quran 39:21,30:48]

Islam is not a blind faith we have a logical proof. Who could have mentioned these things 1,400 years ago? Only the Creator would know this information, at a time where there was no technology.

Other Scriptures

  • We believe that the Gospel and the Tora were the word of God
  • They contained the same message as Islam:
  • “To worship and submit to the one God and worship him”
  • They were meant for those people at that time based on their capacity and knowledge [Quran 5:43-48]
  • However, people altered these scriptures by adding and removing things

Other Scriptures

The Bible:

  • May still contain some remnants of God’s word, but not entirely.
  • It can no longer serve as a complete guide.

Only the Quran:

  • God promised to preserve, remains unchanged and reliable as a guide.
  • We must submit and worship to one God, our Creator.
  • We must believe in all the prophets — Adam, Moses, Jesus, Abraham, and the last prophet, Muhammad (peace be upon them)

Worshiping God alone

The Biggest Sin in Islam:

  • Associate partners with God [Quran 4:116]
  • Worship Idols, prophet, or our desires

We should only worship and submit to the Creator alone

  • He is one God the Almighty
  • He is All-Powerful
  • He doesn’t Beget or isn’t Begotten
  • He is Eternal

Satan’s biggest mission is:

  • Make us worship other Gods other than God [Quran 4:117-119]

Worshiping God alone

In Buddhism:

  • Buddha told people to worship the Creator the one God
  • Not to make images or idols of God
  • Today Buddhists have made a statue of Buddha and worship him and not the Creator

In Christianity:

  • Jesus taught people to worship “My Lord and your Lord”, the one God
    [Mathew 4;10, John 20;17, Quran 5:72]
  • Christians started worshiping Jesus and not the God that Jesus worshiped
  • People chose to worship the creation rather than the Creator

Three Questions to Summarize

  • Do you believe in one God?
  • Do you believe Jesus is God or someone sent by God?
  • Do you believe the Prophet Muhammad is also a Prophet?

If the answer is “Yes” to all three questions, you invite them to take the Shahadah.
If they said “No”, try to discuss more or answer any other questions they might have.

THE END OF OF THE DAWAH SCRIPT

Jesus In Islam

  • Jesus never claimed divinity: Nowhere in the Bible did Jesus say, “I am God” or “Worship me.
  • Jesus prayed by prostration [Matthew 26:39] and fasted like Muslims [Matthew 4:2], showing his submission to God. This raises the question: if Jesus was God, who was he praying to?
  • Jesus taught monotheism: When asked about how to attain eternal life, Jesus referred to the first commandment of Moses, affirming the oneness of God [Mark 12:28-29].
  • Jesus spoke Aramaic, and in Aramaic, the word for God is “Elah,” closely related to “Allah” in Arabic.
  • Jesus is mentioned 25 times in the Quran, where he is honored as a prophet.
  • An entire chapter is dedicated to his mother Mary, who is described as the purest woman.
  • If Mary were alive today and she was walking on the street people would think she is a Muslim because she was also veiled and dressed modestly.
  • Jesus forbade eating pork [Leviticus 11:7-8], Like Muslims.
  • Muslims respect, follow, and love Jesus as a prophet but do not worship him.
  • The Trinity is not mentioned in the Bible and was not established as a formal doctrine until the Council of Nicaea, around 300 years after Jesus’ time. This challenges the notion that the Trinity was part of Jesus’ original teachings.

Misconceptions in Islam

“Let me tell you a bit about Islam first then I’ll answer your question….”
Act based on the situation. If they are willing to listen; try and go over the basics of Islam first.
If they are not willing to listen; Answer the misconception directly from the Quran if possible, that way maybe they will then want to listen to the rest of what you have to say.

Common Misconceptions in Islam

  • Islam Promotes Violence
  • Islam Spread by the Sword Jihad Means Holy War
  • Muslims Don’t Believe in Jesus.
  • Islam Oppresses Women.
  • Muslims Worship a Different God.
  • Islam is Opposed to Science and Progress.
  • The Prophet (PBUH) was a womanizer and his marriage to Aisha RA was inappropriate.

Islam Is a Violent Religion

In Islam, fighting is only permitted in the context of defending oneself or others from harm or oppression.

  • Fight in the cause of Allah only against those who wage war against you, but do not exceed the limits. Allah does not like transgressors. — [Quran 2:190]
  • Kill them wherever you come upon them and drive them out of the places from which they have driven you out. For persecution is far worse than killing. And do not fight them at the Sacred Mosque unless they attack you there. If they do so, then fight them — that is the reward of the disbelievers. — [Quran 2:191]
  • But if they cease, then surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful. — [Quran 2:192]
  • Whoever takes a life — unless as a punishment for murder or mischief in the land — it will be as if they killed all of humanity; and whoever saves a life, it will be as if they saved all of humanity. — [Quran 5:32]

Human life is sacred, and violence that takes innocent life is considered a grave sin in Islam.

“Islam is a Violent Religion”

  • Jihad
  • Oppression
  • ISIS
  • Terrorism

“Islam forces people into the religion”

In Islam belief cannot be forced; people must come to the truth willingly, and sincere faith cannot result from coercion.

“There is no compulsion in religion. The right way has become distinct from the wrong way. So whoever rejects falsehood and believes in Allah has certainly grasped the firmest, unbreakable handhold. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.” [Qur’an 2:256]

Al-Kafirun: “For you is your religion, and for me is my religion.” [Quran 109:6]

Morality in Islam

Why do we need religion or rules?
1) Subjective & Objective morality.
2) Structure of society.
3) The Aztec’s
4) Traffic Rules

“Can you be gay and Muslim?”

  • Belief
  • Desire
  • Control
  • Islam
  • God is all-forgiving
  • Society

LGBTQ+

Being Homosexual is forbidden in Islam.
We must accept that God has Wisdom in the decisions God makes.
“If everyone on an island was LGBTQ+, what would happen to this society?”

Aisha (RA) Marriage to the Prophet (PBUH)

Shorter life expediencies and cultural norms. The legal age 100 years back in America and Europe was 12 till 19th century.
In many cases, with parental or judicial approval, girls as young as 10 or 11 and boys as young as 12 could legally marry.
Puberty and maturity is a requirement for marriage.
Full consent of her family.

Oppression of Women (Before Islam)

  • Women were treated as property
  • Lacked individual rights.
  • Had no inheritance rights
  • Could not own property
  • Marriages and divorces were controlled entirely by men, often leaving women vulnerable.
  • Polygamy was unrestricted, with no limits on the number of wives
  • or equitable treatment.

In the Bible Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines [2 Samuel 5:13]

Oppression of Women (After Islam):

  • Women were given the right to own and inherit property [Quran 4:7]
  • Women gained the right to consent to marriage and to initiate divorce.
  • Polygamy was limited to four wives with strict conditions of fairness and justice [Quran 4:3]
  • Education and spiritual equality with men were emphasized [Quran 33:35]
  • Men have to protect and provide for women [Quran 4:34]
  • Dowery for women when getting married [Quran 4:4]

Beating Wives in Islam

1. Quranic Context [Quran 4:34]
• Advises steps for conflict resolution:
1. Admonish kindly.
2. Separate in bed.
3. Symbolic “strike” (non-harmful and last resort).
• The word “strike” (ضرب) is often misunderstood; scholars like Ibn Kathir emphasize it as a symbolic act, such as using a miswak (tooth-stick).
2. Prophetic Teachings:
• “Do not hit the female servants of Allah.” [Abu Dawood 2146]
• “The best of you are those who are best to their wives.” [Tirmidhi 3895]
• Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) never hit a woman [Muslim 2328]
3. Clarification in Hadith:
• Hitting must be “غير مبرح” (non-harmful). “Symbolic, like using a miswak.” [Ibn Majah 1851]
4. Islam’s Emphasis on Kindness:
• “And live with them in kindness.” [Quran 4:19]
• Abuse and harm are strictly prohibited in Islam.

Islam does not permit abuse or harm to women. The verse emphasizes resolving conflicts with wisdom, patience, and mutual respect,
reflecting the Prophet’s example.
